Maths sharing

Image
This week we have been exploring sharing. We used different manipulatives to practise sharing items between two teddy bears having a picnic. We talked about the words equal , fair and share , and discussed what these words mean. The children worked hard to make sure each teddy bear had the same amount and began to understand that sharing fairly means everyone gets an equal share.

Last week in Drawing Club, the children produced some amazing drawing and writing inspired by the story Unplugged .

Drawing Club - The Fish Who Could Wish

This week in our EYFS Drawing Club, the children enjoyed exploring the story The Fish Who Could Wish . They were inspired by the magical ideas in the story taking this into different areas of our environment .

Art - Painting with String

Image
Last week, the children explored a creative printing activity using string printing. Using pieces of string dipped in paint, the children pulled, dragged, and dropped the string across paper to create unique patterns and marks. This process encouraged them to experiment freely, as string printing is a spontaneous technique where the final outcome can’t always be controlled. The children loved seeing how different movements created different lines, shapes, and textures, helping them to explore mark-making and pattern through play. This activity supported their creativity, fine motor skills, and confidence, while also giving them opportunities to talk about the colours, shapes, and effects they created.

Maths - Manipulate, compose and decompose

This week we have explored shapes . The children have been selecting shapes for a purpose, rotating them, manipulating them, and explaining their arrangements. They began by choosing appropriate shapes to create pictures, thinking carefully about their properties, before experimenting with rotating shapes to see how they can look different but remain the same. The children then enjoyed manipulating shapes by combining and rearranging them to make new ones, developing their problem-solving skills along the way. Finally, they were encouraged to talk about their creations, using positional language to explain how their shapes were arranged, helping to build both their mathematical understanding and confidence in communication.
