Maths - Manipulate, compose and decompose

This week we have explored shapes . The children have been selecting shapes for a purpose, rotating them, manipulating them, and explaining their arrangements. They began by choosing appropriate shapes to create pictures, thinking carefully about their properties, before experimenting with rotating shapes to see how they can look different but remain the same. The children then enjoyed manipulating shapes by combining and rearranging them to make new ones, developing their problem-solving skills along the way. Finally, they were encouraged to talk about their creations, using positional language to explain how their shapes were arranged, helping to build both their mathematical understanding and confidence in communication.
